Can you maintain a human-centric approach whilst leveraging GenAI?
I am a big believer in AI. We’re not only using it in IBM but are also helping our clients with it. First, it's very important to understand that AI will not take your jobs, that we see AI as a collaborator. You don't have to get out of it, learn about something and then apply. It's happening in the flow of work and ultimately you are becoming more and more effective. Organisations just need to start the journey, because if you don't, somebody is going to disrupt you.
But human skills are essential. Think back to the Covid days when we were all trapped in our homes. People used to look forward to engaging with people, coming together and interacting. So human skills, core skills will become more and more important. And the entire importance of a compassionate leader will become extremely critical. But these skills don't come naturally to many and so organisations need to invest on honing these kinds of leadership skills alongside GenAI.
"While it's essential to recognise the different dimensions within an organisation and customise interventions accordingly, the true measure of success in learning and development lies in the impact made. This should be your grounding philosophy. It's not about the dollars spent or the number of learning hours completed by employees; at the end of the day, what is the impact you’re making?"
