About

As part of a new brand initiative at St.George, the retail bank engaged Impact Australia to create a series of senior leadership and cross-functional team development events aimed at building a high-performance culture across the organisation.

In line with the bank’s new brand initiative, ‘Start Something,’ Andy Fell, then General Manager of St.George Retail Bank, began an epic transformation journey. He recognised that this provided a unique opportunity to build leaders at all levels across the business.

Impact Australia were initially engaged to create a series of senior leadership and cross-functional team development events aimed at building a high performance culture in the retail bank. Impact and St.George then worked in close partnership to develop our ‘Coaching for Performance’ programme.

Coaching for Performance was a two-day development programme designed to provide people leaders with a mindset and range of highly practical coaching and challenging skills that will help them to grow the capabilities, motivation and commitment of their team members.

During the programme learning outcomes were created through combining theory with real coaching and challenging practice. Participants received feedback about the effectiveness of their technique through practice sessions that ensured the learning could be applied directly to their roles back in the workplace.

Key programme elements:

  • Theoretical and practical inputs to provide a foundation of performance management, coaching and challenging skills
  • Structured real play sessions based on current work issues that allowed participants to practice and experience coaching as well as receive constructive feedback on their own skills development
  • Building an effective toolkit of techniques applicable to everyday coaching and challenging situations with their staff
  • Developing the confidence to have regular coaching conversations and constructively performance manage others

The programme aimed to help participants achieve a level of skill that would embed coaching in their daily practice. Learning was sustained post programme, including participants connecting with their learning partner and receiving ongoing coaching from their manager to agree actions to integrate into their personal development.

“This programme has really ‘started something’. We believe that there is a little dragon inside all of us…and coaching makes the difference when it comes to our people reaching their true potential. Impact have once again delivered.”
